Catholic Meditation - Feast of the Holy Family of Nazareth

On this last Sunday of the year, December 31, 2023, Mother Church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Family of Nazareth: the family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. It is an opportunity for us too to offer all the members of our own families on the altar for God’s blessing. In the entrance antiphon we pray: “The shepherds went in haste, and found Mary and Joseph and the infant lying in a manger. Amen.”

Catholic Meditation - Fourth Sunday of Advent – Year B

This Sunday, the 24^th day of December 2023, is the Fourth Sunday of Advent in the liturgical year B.  It is the last Sunday of Advent. In the entrance antiphon of this day’s Mass we pray: “Let the clouds rain down the Just One, and the earth bring forth a Saviour. Amen". 

Catholic Meditation - Third Sunday of Advent - Year B

The Universal Church celebrates Sunday, December 17, 2023, as the third Sunday of Advent in the liturgical year B. It is also called the Gaudete Sunday. This name is taken from the entrance antiphon of the Mass, which says, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is near.” These are the words of Saint Paul in which he urges the first Christians of Philippi to rejoice in the Lord always and he gives the reason for this joy, which is that the Lord is at hand. Our Lord always brings us joy, not affliction.

The Universal Church celebrates December 10, 2023, as the Second Sunday of Advent in the liturgical year B. In the entrance antiphon we pray: “For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he spoke of: The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Amen.”
