Mother Church celebrates Sunday, January 17, 2020 as the second Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B. In the entrance antiphon we pray, “All the earth shall bow down before you, O God, and shall sing to you, shall sing to your name, O Most High! Amen.”

Catholic Meditation - Feast of the Epiphany

Today, the Universal Church celebrates the feast of the Epiphany, a major Christian solemnity that is celebrated on January 6^th and commemorates the presentation of the infant Jesus to the Magi, or the Three Wise Men, traditionally named Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar. Tradition also has it that Melchior represented Europe, Caspar, Arabia and Balthazar, Africa.

Mother Church celebrates January 1, the first day of the year, as the Feast of Mary, Mother of God. Since 1967, the Holy See designated this day as the “World Day of Peace.” On this day, the entire Universal Church shares man’s deep yearning for peace, which seems more elusive today than ever before.
